PATNA: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to seize and sell property (movable and immovable) of such entities and individuals who have not paid their holding taxes for a long time. A decision in this regard was taken at the civic body’s meeting on Thursday.
The PMC has prepared a list of tax defaulters who have failed to pay their taxes. The defaulters include Maharaja Complex, Patliputra Builders, Patliputra Nirvana, Patliputra Exotica, several shops and houses in Digha-Ashiana area, Patliputra Colony, Biscomaun Colony, Transport Nagar and Maurya Colony localities. The civic body will carry out the drive to take action against these private property owners from March 15 to 25.
Municipal commissioner Animesh Parashar said several notices were issued to 15 big defaulters, but to no avail.
“These entities and individuals have failed to give satisfactory replies to the notices. We have now decided to take action against them under Section 158 of the Bihar Municipality Act 2007 and Patna Municipal Corporation Tax and Non-Tax Revenue Recovery Regulation, under which there is a provision to confiscate the movable/ immovable property and sell them to compensate the dues,” he said.
Parashar said many private properties, including commercial and residential buildings, are on the defaulter list. “As they have not given any reply to our notices, we will confiscate their property. All the executive officers (circles) have been instructed to take action in this regard,” he said.
