Muda plans to hand over private layouts to Mysuru civic bodyMYSURU: The proposal by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority to hand over scores of private layouts developed on the city’s outskirts brings Mysuru one step closer to becoming Bruhat Mysuru Mahanagara Palike.

Muda commissioner DB Natesh told TOI that a plan is in the works to hand over many layouts to MCC. In this regard, a decision will be made in a month.

Mayor Sunanda Palanetra said that MCC has been providing services in many private layouts like water supply and garbage disposal but the property tax is being credited to Muda. If such layouts are handed over to MCC, Mysuru will surely become a Bruhat Mysuru Mahanagara Palike as scores of layouts will come within its fold.

“However, it is a lengthy process. Elected representatives have to make a proposal to the civic agency so that we can place it before the council for approval and then send it to the government seeking approval,” she said.

On the contrary, activists claim this can happen only when the developers have released 100% of the sites and cleared power dues. Residents of hundreds of layouts abutting the city corporation limits and located closer to it are still waiting in hope that the process is completed soon so that they would get basic facilities like lighting, proper drinking water, roads, and garbage disposal service from the civic agency.

Adish Sagar, a resident of a private layout in west Mysuru, explained the ordeal the dwellers are facing without streetlights. Though 95% of the sites are occupied, the apathy of developers has left them in unsafe situations during the night without streetlights. CESC authorities have disconnected the service as developers owe Rs 23 lakh dues to the authorities.

A layout can only be transferred only when the sites are fully sold, power dues are cleared and moreover, roads are developed and spaces are left for parks and Civic amenity purposes as per the plan approval. Otherwise, it may not be possible for the service provider MCC to take over the layouts, explained Adish of Mysore Realtors Association and said officials and government must warn developers to fulfill all the terms and conditions at the earliest.
